Please join the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame for a press conference on Friday, April 14th, 9:30am at the ILM airport. This will be an awesome opportunity for the students and children of our area to be able to come out and meet many distinguished athletes who have been inducted to the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame in years past. We will also have Special Guests that will be joining the Press Conference. Please help GWSHOF by sharing this invitation with our community and make this a big day with a big announcement that will affect many young people in our area.

Some of the past inductees that will be in joining the press conference are as follow:

John Bunting – played for Philadelphia Eagles, Philadelphia Stars…assistant coach at Kansas City Chiefs and St. Louis Rams..Linebacker Coach that won Superbowl 34 for Rams…He was Head Coach at UNC Tarheels 2000-06.

Jim Moore, Jr. – New Hanover …MVP in football, MVP All-state basketball and leading hitter in baseball. He was a point and standout defensive player for the basketball for Tar Heels under Dean Smith.

Glenn Sasser – Tarboro High School – All Conference and All-State..played in Shrine Game in ’60 and East-West in ’61..NC State on full football scholarship….drafted by St. Louis Cardinals and New York Jets in ’64…Head Coach at New Hanover and first coach at Laney…to South Brunswick to win the Conference Championship.

Lenny Simpson – won singles title at US Lawn Tennis Boys 14….youngest to play at US National Championships…#1 Singles and doubles during his College Career….first African American to play in World Team Tennis.

Sheila Boles – Fayetteville High School she was All Conference 2 yrs softball, 4 yrs in basketball and basketball MVP 2 yrs..UNCW State Champion Volleyball Team, MVP Women’s Basketball and All State Women’s Basketball…Athletic Director at Trask and coached boys basketball, girls, volleyball, track and softaball..name Mid-Eastern 4-A Womens “Coach of the Year”…Regional Coach of the Year…Teacher of the Year..Braveheart Award and Athletic Director of the Year.

Dr. David Esposito – UNCW Sports Medicine Clinic Director, Director Cape Fear Memorial Hospital, Rehab Physician Advisor for all area high schools, Brunswick Community College athletic team physician..Orthopedic consultant to much of Southeast North Carolina…received many awards throughout his career and has served on many high school and athletic boards.
